SEO is the process by which you accomplish frequent tactics that will increase the probability of your site outperforming your competition.  This includes keyword research, onsite optimizations, Google posts, online citations, blog articles and more.  The more your site appears to be the authority in the product or service you offer, the higher the rank Google will assign to your site in the search results.  The way in which you gain authority is through tactics that are completed onsite and offsite.  Examples of onsite tactics would be keyword research, onsite optimizations and strong on page content.  Examples of offsite tactics would be creating online profiles or citations with 3rd party sources such as manta, yellow pages or white pages.
